Old Time Radio

Throughout the 20th century, one of the dominant forms of mass media and entertainment was Radio Shows: Drama, Comedy, Mystery and Horror, as well as news and information, all presented in a purely audio format. Contained in these archives are thousands of hours recorded from these well-funded and talent-filled works.

Some items are entire collections within themselves of many-episode runs of famous shows. Many date from the "Golden Age" of Radio, the early half of the 20th century, while some are remixes or recreations of these works for modern audiences. A percentage are modern(ish) productions utilizing the best of what improved technology and hopes to capture the radio magic could offer.

The introduction of television is considered to be the death knell of this medium, but the works live on.

33 radio recordings of RKO's The Shadow, recorded as main character by Orson Welles between 1937 and 1938 It doesn't happen that often that a cultural icon plays a \"genre\" role, and in the 1930's it probably happened even less. But before a certain well-documented Martian Invasion rocketed him to fame and a contract with RKO, a 22 year-old Orson Welles funded his theatrical productions with radio work, including a year on the Mutual Network's now-legendary \"superhero\"...

I have great affection for this 1942 Temple: wonderful music, Carl Bernard's and Bernadette Hodgson's exquisite pronunciation, and lots of theatrical fun. “Carl Bernard stars as Paul Temple and Bernadette Hodgson as his wife Steve. From 1938 to 1969, the fictional crime novelist and detective Paul Temple, together with his "Fleet Street" journalist wife Steve, solved case after case in one of BBC radio's most popular series. They inhabited a sophisticated world of chilled cocktails...

Tallulah Bankhead was asked to host the show. She had guested in various radio programs in the past but had never done anything on an...

SF 68 was a South African anthology series produced for commercial radio station Springbok Radio in 1968. Produced by Michael McCabe, it featured stories from well known writers such as Ray Bradbury, Harlan Ellison, Murray Leinster, Kate Wilhelm and John Christopher. Thirty three episodes were produced, of which fifteen are in circulation (the episode 'Homecoming' has been omitted, as the audio quality is so poor as to make it almost incomprehensible). The series was cancelled after one season...
